Charles Dickens wrote some of the most popular and widely read novels of the 19th century, from Oliver Twist to A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations. An all-around workhorse, Dickens edited a monthly magazine, serialized his novels, gave public readings and came out with a Christmas story every year, including "A Christmas Carol" in 1843.
