Elizabeth Montgomery

🌠

Born on April 15, 1933 in Hollywood, California Elizabeth Montgomery's parents were also in show business. Her father was actor Robert Montgomery and her mother was actress Elizabeth Allen. Elizabeth attended the Spence School in New York City and the Academy of Dramatic Arts. She made her television debut in the 1950s series Robert Montgomery Presents. Elizabeth appeared in more than 200 live programs over the next ten years.

Elizabeth's film roles include The Court-Martial of Billy Mitchell in 1955 and Johnny Cool in 1963. She is best remembered for her role as Samantha in Bewitched in 1964. Her trademark twitch of the nose heralded in zany magical moments. Bewitched was Montgomery's first and only television series. After it ended Elizabeth acted in made-for-TV movies. A Case of Rape in 1974, The Legend of Lizzie Borden in 1975, Black Widow Murders: The Blanche Taylor Moore Story in 1993 and a narration of the movie The Panama Deception in 1992

Elisabeth was married four times. Frederic Gallatin Cammann from 1954 until 1955 when they divorced. Gig Young form 1956 to 1963 when they also divorced. She married William Asher in October 1963 until their divorce in October of 1975. They had three children. In 1993 Elisabeth married Robert Foxworth and they stay married until her death from colon cancer on May 18, 1995.

In tribute to Elizabeth Montgomery a nine foot bronze statue as Samantha riding sidesaddle on her broomstick was erected in a downtown park in Salem, Massachusetts. In 2008 she received a posthumous star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. She was a great supporter of gay rights and served as grand marshal with Dick Sargent her Bewitched husband at the Los Angeles Gay Pride Parade in 1992.

Elizabeth Montgomery and Lizzie Borden were thinly related. Both Elizabeth and Lizzie were descended from John Luther who lived in the 17th Century. This genealogical documentation was finished after Elisabeth's death. Interestingly enough, she played Lizzie Borden in one of her films.

A quote from Elizabeth Montgomery, "I secretly hope that it's true ?€“ that there are witches like Samantha, and that families like hers really do exist."
