Born on May 28, 1968 in Australia, Kylie Minogue is known as an Australian recording artist, actress and songwriter. She works and lives in London. She came into prominence through her role in the television soap Neighbors. She began her singing career in 1987.
She has sold more than 70 million records and received many ARIA and Brit Awards and a Grammy Award. She received a Mo Award for Australian Entertainer of the Year. She is now an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. Minogue has also been appointed by the French Government as a Knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for her contribution to French culture. Her hit single in 2011 I Should be So Lucky was archived in Australia's Sound of Australia registry. She also has an honorary Doctor of Health Science from Anglia Russi University in the United Kingdom for her work for breast cancer awareness.
Minogue's first single The Loco-Motion was number one on the Australian singles chart and was the highest selling single in Australia. She received a contract with British producers Stock, Aitken & Waterman and her first album Kylie (1988) and it performed well in the UK. She split with her producers and established herself as an independent performer. Confide in Me in 1994 was a number one hit in Australia and a duet with Nick Cave Where the Wild Roses Grow brought her artistic credibility.
Kylie's first motion picture was in The Delinquents in 1989, but she decided to focus more on her singing career. In 1997 Kylie released another single Some Kind of Bliss. Kylie is noted for her petite figure and sexy costumes. She is often barefoot in her videos and changes her appearance often. She performed at the closing ceremonies of the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in Sydney. In 2002 Kylie released her first #1 in the USA since the 1980s Can't Get You Out of My Head and she was nominated for the Best International Female Award at the Brit Awards in 2001.
Kylie continued to contribute to cruelty against children and she had donated her costumes to the Victorian Arts Centre's Performing Art Collection in Melbourne, Australia. In 2005 Kylie was diagnosed with breast cancer and immediately canceled her tour of Australia. Today Kylie is a fashion designer, singer, actress and charity mogul. She was in a five year relationship with Andres Velencoso but due to work schedules the couple did not work out.
