Born on January 3, 1969 in Hurth, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany Michael Schumacher is a German seven-time Formula One World Champion. He is considered one e of the greatest F1 drivers of all time. In 2002 Schumacher was the only F1 driver to finish in the top three in every race of the season. He broke the record for most podium finishes.
Schumacher has been involved in collisions in the concluding race of a season that controlled the outcome of the world championship. One was in 1994 in Adelaide and the other in 1997 in Jerez. Schumacher has driven for Mercedes, Benetton Formula One team in 1991 and Ferrari in 1996 to 2004. He returned to Formula One in 2010 with the Mercedes team and retired again at the end of the 2012 season. Schumacher working with Schuberth, developed the first lightweight carbon helmet (2004). He is also honored for his contribution to his sport and raising awareness of childhood education. He is a UNESCO Champions for sort. He won the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year in 2002 and 2004 and held the honor of having the most nominations for a motorsport athlete.
Schumacher is married to Corinna Betsch (1995) and they have two children. He lives in a mansion on Lake Geneva where he keeps horses and two dogs. He appears in charity football games and games between Formula One drivers. He is an Ambassador at Large for the Most Serene Republic of San Marino.
In 2013 Schumacher suffered a critical head injury as he was skiing in the French Alps. He was airlifted to the hospital and placed in a medially induced coma. As of February 2014, Schumacher remains in a coma.
