Born in New York City on April 12, 1979 Claire Catherine Danes studied at the Professional Performing Arts School and Lycee Francais de Los Angeles. She attended Yale University but dropped out to start her acting career.
Claire came into the public eye when she appeared in My So-Called Life in 1994. She won an Emmy nomination and a Golden Glove award for this part. She has acted in The Hours in 2002, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines in 2003 and Stardust in 2007. Claire won an Emmy, Golden Glove and Screen Actors Guild Award for her performance in Temple Grandin in 2010. Claire played in Stage Beauty in 2004 and in Romeo and Juliet in 1996. She turned down the role as Rose in Titanic (1997) since she did not want to act with Leonardo di Caprio so quickly after her Romeo and Juliet role. Claire is the model for Gucci Jewelry and was named as Harvard University's 2012 Hasty pudding Woman of the Year.
Claire is acting in Homeland (2011-13). She is currently married to Hugh Dancy and they have one son.
