Bjorn Rune Borg is a past No. 1 world class Swedish tennis player who was born on June 6, 1956. He won eleven Grand Slam singles designations from 1974 and 1981. Five successive Wimbledon singles titles are under his belt and he claims six French Open titles. He is deemed to be the greatest male tennis player of all time. He is the first tennis player to earn more than one million dollars in a single season. He began his career at the age of 14 and in 1972 at 15, Borg was one of the youngest competitors to stand for his country in the Davis Cup. Borg went on to play and defeat such greats as Jimmy Connors, Yannick Noah, Ivan Lendle, John McEnroe and Arthur Ashe. His record of six French Open Grand Slam classics lasted from 1981 until 2012 when Rafael Nadal beat Borg?€™s record. In 1982 Borg played one tournament losing to Yannick Noah in the quarterfinals of Monte Carlo. He announced in January of 1983 he was retiring from the game. Borg was only 26. He spend his retirement as owner of the Bjorn Borg fashion house. It is one of the most popular fashion houses in Sweden. Mariana Simionescu and Borg married on July 24, 1980 but the marriage concluded in divorce. He was briefly married to Loredana Berte and has one child by Swedish model Jannike Bjorling. His financial problems have almost forced him into bankruptcy. In 1990 Borg attempted to comeback on the men?€™s professional tennis tour. He grew his hair out and returned to using wooden racket. He was totally unsuccessful and failed to win a single match.
