Sir Roger George Moore was born October 14, 1927. Moore is applauded for his role as James Bond in seven films from 1973 to 1985. Moore played Simon Templar in television series, The Saint from 1962 to 1969. Moore uses his charm and wit as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF. Before joining the Royal Army Service Corps he worked at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. He played in Trottie True and worked with Lois Maxell, the original Miss Moneypenny. He was used as an extra in the 1940s until the age of 17 when he appeared in Caesar and Cleopatra. Moore worked as a model and in toothpaste commercials. Throughout the 1950s Moore was billed third in most of his movies. He spent a few years doing parts in television series. Moore made his name in television as the eponymous hero in Ivanhoe (1958-59). His next television roles included 1959-60 Western series The Alaskans. Moore turned to more westerns in 1960-61 and he played Beau Maverick in Maverick. In 1962 through 1969 Moore played Simon Templar in The Saint. In 1973 Moore was cast as James Bond in Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun (1974), Moonraker (1979) and A view to a Kill (1985). He is the longest James Bond actor and spent 12 years in the role. He made seven office James Bond films. He is also the oldest actor to play Bond and was 58 when he announced his retirement from the series. Moore?€™s versions of Bond are known for his sense of humor and witty lines. In an Academy Awards poll in 2004, Moore was voted the Best Bond. During the Bond period Moore made Cannonball Run (1981) The Curse of the Pink Panther (1983) and Gold in 1974. Moore married Doorn Van Steyn, then Dorothy Squires, and then Luisa Mattioli and finally Mirstina Tholstrup. He has one daughter and two sons.
