Dustin Hoffman

Dustin Hoffman was born, Dustin Lee Hoffman August 8, 1937 in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1954 and attended Santa Monica City College for one year. He became an actor since he was opposed "to work." Hoffman's trademark is his huge range of roles. He has played a crippled street hustler in Midnight Cowboy, woman in Tootsie, and an autistic in Rain Man. He has a deep nasal voice and is also reputed for being difficult to work with.
Hoffman's varied roles include The Graduate in 1967 where he earned $17,000, Midnight Cowboy in 1969, John and Mary 1969, Papillion in 1973 and Tootsie in 1982. He also played in Istar in 1987 and Rain Man in 1988 where his earnings topped $5 million. You can also see Hoffman in Little Big Man, Straw Dogs, and Marathon Man.
Hoffman began his career at the Pasadena Playhouse with Gene Hackman. He, Hackman and Robert Duvall shared apartments during the early 1960s and between the three they have earned eighteen Academy Award nominations and five wins. One of Hoffman's nominations was for The Graduate alongside Anne Bancroft. Hoffman's portrayal of Benjamin Braddock was the beginning of his remarkable career.
Hoffman is currently married to Lisa Gottsegen and they have four children. He is a political liberal and supports the Democratic Party. He received Kennedy Center Honors in 2012 for his commitment to the wide variety of roles he plays. He won Academy Awards for Kramer vs. Kramer and Rain Man. Currently Hoffman is filming Chef, Roald Dahl's Esio Trot and Boys Choir.
