Susan Alexandra Weaver aka Sigourney Weaver was born on October 8, 1949 in New York City. Her father was a TV producer and her mother was a British actress. Sigourney grew up in a wealthy environment, but continually moved. She was tall, and took on the role of class clown to combat teasing and bullying. In 1963 Weaver changed her name to Sigourney Howard and began starring in school dramas. She worked summer stock performing in A Streetcar Named Desire and You Can?€™t Take it With You. In 1969 Weaver attended Stanford University where she acted in school plays. She attended the Yale School of Drama but was continually type casted as a prostitute and an old woman. She continued acting on state until 1977 when she was cast in Annie Hall. She appeared in Madman (1978) and was the main star in Alien in 1979. In 1981 Sigourney appeared in Eyewitness and the Year of Living Dangerously. In 1984 Sigourney appeared in the blockbuster Ghostbusters and was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in Hurly Burly. Sigourney played the uncompromising Ripley in Aliens in 1986 and she was nominated for an Oscar. More Oscar nominations came to Sigourney for Gorillas in the Mist, 1988 and her performance in Working Girl. Sigourney retired from acting to give birth to her daughter Charlotte. She returned to the big screen as Ripley in Alien 3 (1992) and as Queen Isabella in 1492: Conquest of Paradise. Additional movies credited to Sigourney include Snow White: A Tale of Terror in 1997, The Ice Strom in 1997 and Alien: Resurrection 1997. Comedy films include Galaxy Quest in 1999 and Company Man in 2000. Sigourney is still going strong and her crucial role in Avatar (2009) became a hug box office hit. Sigourney continues to win rave reviews for her talent. She is currently married to Jim Simpson and they have one child.
