Born in New York on March 27, 1970, Mariah Carey is record producer, song writer, singer, philanthropist and actress. She released her album Mariah Carey in 1990 and watch it go multi-platinum. She followed up with albums Emotions in 1991, Music Box in 1993, and Merry Christmas in 1994. She was Columbia Record's highest selling artist. Daydream in 1995 and its single One Sweet Day stayed on top of the charts for sixteen weeks.
Carey singed a contract worth $100 million with Virgin Records. Her debut film Glitter left her in the hospital with an emotional and physical breakdown. Her movie did not do well and Virgin bought out her contract for $50 million. Carey's career stalled. In 2005 Carey returned to the top with The Emancipation of Mimi and We Belong Together. She acted in Precious in 2009 and was awarded the Breakthrough Performance at the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Carey has retailed more than 200 million records and is one of the best-selling artists of all time. Carey was named the most successful female artist of the millennium in 2000. Mariah has announced a new album waiting to be released in 2014. She is planning on releasing a new single in February and the album later in the spring. Mariah was married to Tommy Mottola from 1993 until 1998 when they divorced. She married Nick Cannon in 2008 and they are still married. The couple has children, Monroe and Moroccan.
