John Lennon

John Winston Lennon was a part of the Quarrymen and then the Beatles. He was born on October 9, 1940 in Liverpool England and died in New York City on December 8, 1980 due to a gun shot. The Beatles performed in Liverpool and Hamburg Germany for years until they released their single Love Me Do and Please Please Me. They flew to America to appear on The Ed Sullivan Show in in 1963 and Beatlemania took off. In 1965 Queen Elizabeth II awarded all the Beatles (4 of them) M.B.E. medals for their economic efforts. Lennon returned his in protest four years later.
In the late 1960s Lennon began making music albums with Yoko Ono his second wife and the Beatles began to break up. Two Virgins and Life with the Lions by Lennon and Ono were flops and the live album Live Peace in Toronto became a hit. Lennon and Ono continued to record together, appeared on television, and performed at charity concerts. When Imagine was released John and Yoko moved to the U.S, but a four year battle to stay erupted with the government. Yoko and John separated for a year, but came back together in 1975. They had one son and took a five year break from music. Yoko and John made a comeback with Double Fantasy but John was murdered by Mark David Chapman within a month after the release of this album.
Lennon is known for his songs about personal issues and social themes. He always wore round framed glasses and wore army surplus shirts and jackets. He was married to Cynthia Lennon from 1962 until 1968 and they had one child. He then married Yoko Ono in 1969 and they were married until his death. They had one child. Lennon will always be remembered for his collaboration with the Beatles.
