Born: 11 November 1974 Birthplace: Los Angeles, California Best Known As: Heartthrob star of the 1997 film Titanic DiCaprio's first big role was on the television series Growing Pains, and he got critical raves for his role in What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993, with Johnny Depp) but he really became a major star with his 1996 role in Romeo and Juliet. After his starring turn in 1997's Titanic (with Kate Winslet), he was an international superstar, and a favorite of the tabloids for his pin-up looks and party-boy reputation. His other films include Woody Allen's Celebrity (1998), The Beach (2000), Steven Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can (2002, with Christopher Walken) and Martin Scorsese's Gangs of New York (2002, co-starring Cameron Diaz). He plays eccentric innovator Howard Hughes in the film The Aviator, due for release late in 2004.
