Albert Uderzo

Alberto Aleandro Uderzo was born April 5, 197. He is an artist and a scriptwriter born in France and he deals mainly in comic book art. He worked on the Asterix series and has is the creator and artist of Oumpah-pah. As a child, Uderzo longed to be an aircraft mechanic, but his talents in illustration gave him the impetus to draw.
Uderzo began his successful art career in Paris after WWII with his creations Flambarge and Clopinard. He also illustrated and created Belloy and Arys Buck. Uderzo collaborated with Rene Goscinny in 1951 and they began their career by creating Oumpah-pah, Jehan Pistolet and Luc Junior. In 1959 the two friends and associates created Pilote magazine for older children. The first issue introduced Asterix to the French and became a hit. In 1977 Goscinny died and Uderzo continued to write Asterix on his own. The cover, however, still credits Goscinny and Uderzo and writers and illustrators.
Uderzo and his wife Ada have one daughter Sylvie Uderzo. Uderzo also has a brother Marcel who is a cartoonist.
Uderzo has been awarded the Knight of the Legion of Honor (1985), Eisner Award Hall of Fame in the U.S. (2005), and received the Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion (2007).
