Cate Blanchett

An actress who was born on May 14, 1969 in Melbourne, Australia, Catherine Elise Blanchett (Cate Blanchett) had an American father and an Australian mother. She graduated from Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Arts in 1992 and joined the Sydney Theatre Company production of Top Girls. She then played in Kafka Dances and won the 1993 Newcomer Award. Blanchett acted with the Sydney Theatre Company in Oleanna and won the Rosemont Best Actress Award. She starred in ABC Television's drama Heartland in 1994 and won critical acclaim.
Blanchett starred in Bordertown in 1995, G.l.P. In 1989 and Police Rescue in 1994. Her first film was Paradise Road in 1997. She was the star in Elizabeth in 1998 and won a Golden Globe for Best Actress. She was nominated for an Academy Award for the same role. She starred in Bandits, The Shipping News and Charlotte Gray all in 2001. She played the Elf Queen in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Blanchett was in Aviator in 2005 where she received an Academy Award. She received an Academy Award nomination for Notes on a Scandal in 2006. She revised her role as Elizabeth in Elizabeth: The Golden Age in 2007. This earned her an Oscar nomination. For a different role, Cate was in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008. Also in 2008 Cate starred in the Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Blanchett continues to grind out outstanding performances and in 2014 she won the Best Actress Academy Award for her portrayal in Blue Jasmine.
Cate and her family currently live in Australia. She married Andrew Upton in 1997 and they are still married. They have three children.
