Joan Collins

Born in Paddington, England Joan Henrietta Collins is an actress, columnist and author. Her stage debut was a Doll's House when she was only nine. Joan went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in Long and was signed to a contract by the Rank Organization. She appeared in many British films.

Joan headed to Hollywood at the age of 22 and landed sultry roles in The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing in 1955 and Rally "Round the Flag, Boys! in 1958. She made a number of US and British films throughout the 1960s, but her career slowed in the 1970s. She did appear in horror flicks. She appeared in two films based on her sister Jackie Collins books, The Stud in 1978 and The Bitch in 1979. In 1980 she earned the title role in The Last of Mrs. Cheyney and a lead role in Private Lives.

Joan was Alexis Carrington Colby in the Dynasty (1980s), and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her role as an evil ex-wife. Joan has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She brought Dynasty out of obscurity to rival the#1 television series at the time (Dallas). During her Dynasty time Joan appeared in a twelve page photo layout for Playboy magazine and starred in Making of a Male model. Joan also produced and starred in Sins and Monte Carlo in 1986.

Moving on to 2000, Joan was cast in The Flintstones in Via Rock Vegas and co-starred with Debbie Reynolds and Shirley MacLaine as well as Elizabeth Taylor in These Old Broads. 2013 Joan joined the cast of Benidorm, a British program.

Joan has been married five times. Maxwell Reed in 1952, Anthony Newley (two children) in 1963 and Ron Kass in 1972 (two children). In 1985 Collins married Peter Holm and in 2002 she married Percy Gibson.

Joan has written books on beauty and her autobiography. She published her first novel, Prime Time in 1988. She continues to write despite legal battles with her publisher. She is a patron of the Shooting Star Children's Hospice in Great Britain and supports foster children in India. She is the Honorary President of the RADA Associates.
