He was successful as a reporter, but discovered theater and made his stage debut at 17. O?€™Toole was a radioman in the Royal Navy, attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, and spent several years on stage at the Bristol Old Vic. O?€™Toole was a professional cricket coach in London and among his accolades, he was chosen as one of the 100 sexiest starts in film history by Empire magazine. He received the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 2000 for Outstanding Achievement for his theater performances. In 2003 he won a Special Oscar for lifetime achievement. O?€™Toole has been king in Becket (1964), The Lion in Winter (1968), Troy (2004), and Caligula in 1979. He has also been a Pope in The Tudors in 2007, a president in Hitler: The Rise of Evil in 2003, and a prince in The Rainbow Thief in 1990. O?€™Toole is known for his bold blue eyes and deep smooth voice. He often play rebels and has had many roles in Shakespearean adaptions. He generally plays real life characters. O?€™Toole was married two times; one to Karen Brown in 1983 (one child) and to Sian Phillips in December 1959 to August 1979. They had two children.
