Allan Stewart Konigsbert of Woody Allen was born on December 1, 1935 in New York City. He is a producer, director, screen star and director. He has won Oscars and has lived a career that has lasted over 50 years. Allen worked as a comedy writer in the 1950s and wrote jokes for television. He published several books of short humor articles. In the 1960s Allen started performing as a stand-up comedian and emphasized monologues. In the middle 1960s Allen began writing and directing films. He specialized in slapstick comedies and them into dramatic material. He is listed as part of the New Hollywood group of filmmakers. He often stars in his own films as an insecure, fretful, but insecure nerd. Some of his most known films are Annie Hall in 1977, Manhattan in 1979, Hannah and Her Sisters in 1986 and Midnight in Paris in 2011. He has won four Academy Awards and has more screenwriting nominations for the Oscar than any other writer. He is the recipient of nine British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards. He still performs as a jazz clarinetist at small coffee shops in Manhattan. Allen wrote Don?€™t Drink the Water in 1966 which was a successful Broadway play. He also wrote Play It Again, Sam which featured Diane Keaton. He wrote The Floating Light Bulb in 1981 and it played on Broadway and was a huge success. He wrote the screenplay for What?€™s New Pussycat in 1965 and wrote and directed What?€™s Up Tiger Lily? One of his most famous movies, Annie Hall received four Academy Awards in 1977 including a best director award. This film became the benchmark for modern romantic comedies. In the 1990s Allen directed and wrote Mighty Aphrodite in 1995 as well as Sweet and Low Down in 1999. Deconstructing Harry in 1997 and Celebrity in 1998 were a change from his comedic themes and veered into darker realms. 2000 saw Allen making Small Time Crooks in 2000 and Match Point in 2005. He made Midnight in Paris that won the Academy Award for Best Original Screen play in 2011 and his film Scoop Allen return to acting. His most recent release Blue Jasmine in 2013 won an Oscar for Cate Blanchett and Allen a nomination for best screenplay. His relationships have been the plots of drama magazines. Harlene Rosen was his first wife from 1954 to 1959, Louise Lasser from 1966 to 1970 and Soon-Yi Previn from 1997 to the present. He had a romantic relationship with Mia Farrow, but they never married. He had romantic relationships with Diane Keaton and Stacey Nelkin.
