Go to Reversed MeaningA male figure stands in a wooden boat he is steering with six swords stuck in the vessel. Yet, it doesn’t sink or lose integrity. A cloaked woman and child are behind the swords and at the feet of the man. They sail across turbulent waters to calm seas and the land in the distance that may be their new refuge.

Upright Card Meaning
If you have ever stepped outside in the moments immediately after a terrible storm, you may recognize the stillness found in the Six of Swords. The troubled times have receded, although their legacy is still palpable. It is not time for rejoicing just yet. There is still debris to clean up and rebuilding to do so that the long, hard journey of healing may be undertaken.
However, you can allow yourself a small, calm exhale of relief because you are leaving your old troubles behind. You are transitioning away from a time of hurt and turmoil. It may not be clear yet where you are going, but you are free to choose your future destination with all your energies now that you have let go of your old pain.
The calm in this card is not perfect stillness, there is much work being done beneath the surface as well as some grieving for the losses that occurred in the past. However, you are no longer buffeted by the terrible winds of your troubles.

Reversed Card Meaning
When the Six of Swords is reversed, the healing journey has been frozen in place. Your most troubled times may be over, but you are still reliving all your hurt and your pain emotionally. Something is stopping you from moving on.
Turn inwards and examine what exactly is blocking you. Is it fear? That is understandable, your past experiences may have been difficult but if they were all that you knew, you found comfort in the familiarity. But fear no longer serves you, let it go. Is it resentment? That, too, is understandable, resentment and anger are powerful emotions that can motivate you when you are at your lowest. But when you are trying to heal, resentment only serves as a constant reminder of all that you have suffered, like picking at a wound.
Your journey will be easier and swifter if you release your heavy inner baggage. Say thank you to emotions like anger and fear, they helped you survive during the worst of it. But they are no longer of use to you and you can release them freely.
