Dwight D Eisenhower

The 34th President of the United States was Dwight D. Eisenhower (Ike) who was born October 14, 1890. Eisenhower was president from 1953 until 1961. Eisenhower holds the rank of five-star general in the US Army and served bravely during WWII as Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe. He was also the first supreme commander of NATO.
Eisenhower campaigned in the 1952 presidential race as a Republican to fight against communism, Korea and corruption. He won the majority vote and defeated Adlai Stevenson. Eisenhower opposed Joseph McCarthy and ended McCarthyism and the communist witch hunt. Eisenhower expanded Social Security, launched the Interstate highway system and organized the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency which lead to the internet. He established NASA for the peaceful discover of space. Eisenhower establishes the National Defense Education Act and the peaceful use of nuclear power.
Eisenhower sent federal troops to Little Rock, Arkansas to enforce federal court mandates to desegregate public schools. In 1957 Eisenhower signed civil right legislation and again in 1960 to protect the right of minorities to vote. He desegregated the armed forces and made Supreme Court appointments five time. He was the first president to have a two-term limitation placed on his presidency and his terms were very peaceful and prosperous.
Eisenhower was married to Mamie Geneva Doud and he had two sons. He is a Presbyterian by religion and a military proponent by career. He died on March 28, 1969 at the age of 78 and rests in Abilene, Kansas.
