Julie Andrews or Dame Julie Elizabeth Andrews was born on October 1, 1935. She is a stage actress, film star, singer, author, dancer and theater director. In 2000 was made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II for services to the performing arts. Julie was a child actress and a singer. In 1948 she appeared in West End and in 1954 she appeared on Broadway in The Boy Friend. She starred in musicals, My Fair Lady and Camelot on stage and earned Tony Award nominations. She had the title role in Cinderella in 1957. Julie?€™s first feature film was Mary Poppins in 1964. She won an Academy Award for Best Actress. Her second Oscar nomination was for The Sound of Music in 1965. The Americanization of Emily, Hawaii, Torn, Curtain and Thoroughly Modern Millie were successful pictures made by Julie during 1964 through 1967. Her films Star!, The Tamarind Seed and Darling Lili did not do well at the box office but in 1982 Julie raved audiences with Victor Victoria. Her career revived with The Princess Diaries in 2001 and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement in 2004. Her voice added color to Shrek and Despicable Me in 2010. In 1997 she had a throat operation which damaged her vocal range. To compensate she was the stage director of The Boy Friend in 2003. Julie has authored children?€™s books and in 2008 her autobiography Home: A Memoir of My Early Years was published. Julie is also the recipient of a BAFTA award, three Grammys and five Golden Globes. She was awarded The Kennedy Center honors, the Disney Legend award and in 2002 she was listed as one of Great Britain?€™s greatest citizens. Julie married Tony Walton in 1959 and they moved back to England in 1962 where her daughter Emma Katherine Walton was born. Walton and Julie divorced in 1967. Bake Edward was Julie?€™s second husband and they stayed married for 41 years. After the Sound of Music Julie appeared on the Andy Williams Show and her own show The Julie Andrews Show won her an Emmy award (1965). She starred in Torn Curtain and Thoroughly Modern Millie in 1967. In the 1970s Julie continued working variety specials. In 1980 she headlined a TV special with 30 major stars raising funds for Cambodian famine victims. She starred in Little Miss Marker and in 1981 appeared in S.O.B. Julie was Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year in 1983 and won Golden Globe nominations That?€™s Life!. In 2005 and 2006 Julie was the official Ambassador for Disneyland?€™s 18 month celebration. In 2013 Julie at the age of 77 traveled to Australia and New Zealand with Nicholas Hammond, one of her children in Sound of Music. She was unable to sing, but opened with speaking engagements.
