Astrological Definitions and their Meaning: Upachaya, Urania, Uranian Planets, Uranus

Upachaya
Upachaya is thought to mean prosperity and accumulation and in Astrology terms it is the name given for 3 of the 12 houses in a natal chart. These are considered houses of growth and places where malefic planets may benefit from improved better directed influence. The 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th are known as Upachaya houses and are capable of highlighting areas in a person's life that they can improve over time with a little effort. When the favorable planets Venus, Jupiter and Mercury are seen gathered together in any Upachaya house this is believed to be an indication of great personal wealth.

Urania
Urania is the name for one of Zeus's nine daughters and was a Goddess of music and dance and she is considered as the muse of Astrology. She is sometimes also known as Ourania and was believed able to predict the future from the arrangements of stars. Urania is associated with the heavenly spirits and love and this is where her attention and influence is thought to be focused. Like all her mythical sisters Urania has an asteroid named after her. When this celestial body is seen on major cusps in a joint astrological birth analysis it can reinforce the success potential of a possible romantic or business relationship.

Uranian Planets
The concept of 4 hypothical Uranian planets was first introduced in 1914 by Alfred Witte and Friedrich Sieggrün. The initial idea was further developed with the addition of four more and today they are sometimes also known as the 8 transneptunian planets. These conceptual celestial reference points can provide added insight when studying Astrology charts. The Uranian planets all have their own significance. Cupido concerns family, Hades covers the distant past, Zeus indicates motivation while Kronos shows independence. Appollon signifies growth, Ademetos stability, Vulcanus strength and Posiedon highlights wisdom.

Uranus
Uranus is considered an ice giant along with the planets Jupiter, Neptune and Saturn and it is seventh in distance from the Sun. It was discovered in 1781 by William Herschel and for astrological purposes is said to rule the zodiac sign of Aquarius. This is a fairly dimly lit and slow moving planet that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Its influence in Astrology is believed to center on originality, inventions, rebellions and changes. On a personal level Uranus can be an indication of a prominent independent streak within a personality. It's appearance in the 12th house may be an expression of a person's strong need for freedom and individuality.
