There is a hooded figure that is riding the gondola and has his or her back to the card viewer. The rider has his or her arm over the shoulders of a child that is also riding the gondola. At the head of the boat are six swords stuck into it at a vertical angle.

The Rider-Waite edition of the tarot deck features a youth in a pink tunic with yellow stockings standing wistfully on the top of a hill, his hair is being whipped to and fro by the wind. There are clouds in the background and the ground itself looks very uneven. He holds a sword at the ready, but has a carefree look about his face.

The knight of swords is the 12th card in the suit of swords. The suit of swords is the last suit in a set of four which make up the minor arcana grouping in a game of tarot. The Rider-Waite depiction of the knight of swords shows a man on a horse rushing brazenly into battle. He has his sword drawn and seems to be heading into the heat of the fight.
